Every year on June 20 the world honors the courage, resilience and strength of refugees. On the United Nations designated World Refugee Day, thousands of organizations in hundreds of countries will come together to focus global attention not only on the plight of refugees and the causes of their exile, but also on their determination and will to survive and on the contributions they make to their host communities. This year's World Refugee Day has as its theme, "Home," in recognition of the plight of the more than 40 million uprooted people around the world.
The UNHCR will be running live feed of interviews and aid on their website, through twitter, and facebook all day June 20 in honor of World Refugee Day. Listen (or read) as they interview women and families who have been displaced by war and famine. They will also be setting up over 800 tents today for thousands of refugees from Kyrgyzstan.
