Begin where you are

As a former WomanStats coder, I know more than most about the uphill battle so many women are fighting around the world. And even though I've graduated and left my fellow coders, I can't get the thousands of stories out of my mind. I can't pretend I don't know what their lives are like and that I'm ok with it. So, I started this blog project because I wanted to stay actively involved in the fight for women's rights. And I found myself sucked into a bigger global problem- human rights. I think when you fight for one, you fight for the other. So this blog is going to address the problems faced by women and their families on a global scale. My hope is that here there will be discussion and idea sharing- that this will be a melting pot of people who are all looking for ways to get involved and work together for a greater good.
Do you ever feel like there's so much to change and so many people to help that you might as well just not do any of it because you won't get it all done anyways? Lately I've been thinking a lot about this. About looking outside myself, about trying to help, about learning something new... they're daunting thoughts, honestly. Its easy to make excuses, or put things off, waiting. Until next month. Until you have more money. Until you have more time. But it's clear that the world is in need and we can't keep waiting to help out. Too many people are hungry, thirsty and homeless. And if you or I don't start helping now, nothing will change. This life is meant to be a time of action- a time to accomplish more, to lengthen your stride and try a little harder to help those around you, everyday. So begin where you are. Start with the knowledge you have and grow from there. Give of your time, money, ideas and your whole self. And you'll come out of it a thousand times richer than when you started.

Begin where you are.
Don't wait for the right moment
or the easy moment.
If it needs to get done,do it.
where you are.
be better now.
