Fighting Escalates in Libya

Human Rights Watch witnessed hours of intense gunfire exchanges near Brega, Libya. Afterward, we collected evidence on the pro-Gaddafi forces’ weapons and saw several hundred civilians and armed rebels celebrating in front of the university.

Protesters were tearing down a large billboard of Gaddafi when a fighter jet fired a missile, which landed 10 meters from us and the crowd.
