How does your garden grow?

This month, while you’re working in the yard and savoring crisp produce, we'd like to take a quick moment to reflect on the joy that gardens bring, especially to people like Sharda Devi. That’s Sharda in the picture above, weeding in her field with her two children, Kajal and Praveen. (Beautiful family, right?)

Sharda and her family live in a small village in Rajasthan, India. While movie buffs may remember Rajasthan as the setting for a classic 80’s James Bond movie, many people know it as one of the largest states in India that suffers from drought year-round.

Farming is the main way that Sharda’s family and their neighbors survive. Unfortunately, due to the overwhelming hot weather, long dry seasons, and poor agricultural systems, parents often have to put their kids to bed with empty stomachs.

Seva Mandir, a local community organization, works tirelessly to improve conditions for local farmers. Seva Mandir recently gave Sharda higher-quality seeds to plant and taught her how to better cultivate her vegetable garden, producing life-changing crops to feed her and her family.

If you’re wondering how you can help empower farmers like Sharda, we’ve got just the thing. With as little as $15, you can help plant a better vegetable garden for a family in India.

We already know that you’re a pretty generous bunch, so we’re looking for a group of people who are able to commit to small monthly gifts to help keep Sharda’s garden (and others like it) sustainable year round. Would you be willing to give $15 each month to help Indian families feed themselves and support their own communities?
