Current Crisis: Pakistan

In addition to being host to almost two million Afghan refugees, more than a million Pakistanis remain displaced within their own borders because of conflict in the northwest region. The Afghan refugees are particularly vulnerable and need long-term assistance, and the Pakistani refugees require immediate protection and are currently difficult to access by aid agencies. More than three million Pakistanis have fled their homes since 2009, in what was the largest movement of people in Pakistan since partition from India sixty years ago. While the majority has now returned home, more then a million remain displaced. Aid agencies are struggling to respond to the crisis given the difficulties accessing some of the displaced, the constraints imposed by the government of Pakistan and the massive immediate needs. The UN consolidated appeal for 2010 should be more then $700 million, but as military offensives continue the number of displaced is likely to grow, requiring even more funding and man power in the near future. 1. You know, when i was living in northern UK, i met a lot of Pakistani people. they were mostly very nice, but i sensed a lingering concern on their faces at all times. I think i would feel the same way if my country was in such need
